The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities through sustainable development across 170 countries. Each year, UNDP tracks and reports on progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 17 global objectives designed to improve life for people and the planet by 2030. The SDGs Today platform provides an interactive web experience that makes this complex data accessible and engaging for a global audience.
The United Nations wanted to get people excited about the SDGs and their progress, educate users on the larger issue of inequality, and inspire people to commit to action. The SDGs update was historically a document that got faxed every two years to a local office. Now, it needed to go to both the professionals working for the UN and the general public.
For the visual strategy, we took the idea of historical report, kind of like a redacted FBI file, and brought it to life in a way that’s much more alive and visually appealing. We wanted to cater to different types of audiences, so the report expertly balances highly skimmable content and opportunities to dig deep with links to further information.
